Materiality: Bubble Wrap
The project focuses on the property of bubble wrap. Starting from the series of physical single units, we use various amount of air, water, oil, and water bead, to fill into the internal space. Accordingly, each piece represents different rigidity. The first animation simulates the result when some little beads fall on the bubble wrap with half of water. The second animation simulate the process when bubble wraps with different internal medium fall on the solid geometry.
Moreover, the combination of water bead and bubble wrap also shows the temporality of the material. As time goes on, water beads expand after meeting with water. Different portion of water and bead inside the bubble wrap will have multiple transparency. We chose four of them, make two physical models, before and after water beads meet water, and finally use the frame to group them together. The third digital simulation in this step tries to emit countless sphere with different sizes to fill in the capsule so that this could represent temporality as well.
Finally, based on the different rigidity, we try to connect each bubble wrap as a ring and link some of them together. From the physical model, two, four, and six rings are respectively combined as different geometries. Relatively, the last animation shows how we process four torus digitally, from a random linkage to a sphere geometry.
