Digital Media: Models

Project Group 2 Submission

For this phase of our mid-review project, we sought to explore nature and ephemerality, as well as how they would be memorialized in time. In our previous model, we chose the artifacts consisting of garlic cloves, acorns, and the facade of a Thai restaurant. We explored manipulations of scale and repetition through the digital scan manipulations. The digital and physical operations that we applied to a moment within our model consisted of scaling, breaking, peeling, materiality to be changed to a softer material, and boolean. These operations were inspired by the physical characteristics of one of our original artifacts, such as the peeling of the skin or the peeling of the garlic cloves. We also sought to use plasticine clay for our physical model, which contrasted the brittleness of our original artifact. Ultimately, we experimented with these manipulations in hopes to minimize the physical and digital, the static and dynamic moments.
