Shichen And Tracy

The chosen objects, fungi and deserted 3D prints, are inherently distinct in nature, organic and synthetic, soft and rigid. With the focus on texture, form and structure, this experiment aims to explore the dihcotomic notions of the chosen objects in digital space. Initially, a low density “mycelium” brick and 3D prints are scanned and individually manipulated through the process of sculpting, mirroring, and texturing that serve as the basis of the architecture space. A desire to merge the materiality of the two objects was attempted: the mushroom brick slowly envelopes the structure as it grows on the rigid structure. By imagining t the same material strength, the rigid 3D printed structure is influenced and altered by the growing “mycelium wall”, becoming the secondary layer of the installation. The presented object is perceived as an instantaneous moment of the ever changing form, where the material of structure constantly oscillates between the artificial object and mushroom wall.
