As two common packing materials, bubble wrap and wrapping paper, are easily manipulated randomly. However, with the limitation by the grid and the foldable crease, both represent the controlled status to be deformed.The project starts with 3D scans of one normal position of bubble wrap and four forms of foldable wrapping paper. Inspired by the adaptive property of bubble and paper material, we use the specific command of bending, twisting, scaling, perspective, and extrusion to generate 8 families and 56 individual units on the list. Finally, three of them are chosen to design a composite pavilion. The concrete podium of the pavilion served as the spiral stair and terrace, is transformed by two wrapping paper units. Since the foldable paper has the strong structural advantage, it is regarded as the solid base of the whole massing. The covering profile, textured by translucent material, mesh and plastic panels, brings the daylight into the interior space and creates the reflection between the vertical pieces. This consideration refers to the special characteristic of bubble material, which is penetrable and breathable, but still can be utilized as a protected shelter. The project explores the flexibility and limitation of two common materials, finally creates a pavilion design with contract properties.
