Diaphanous Gate
Inspired by our team’s physical geographical locations, the scanned portions of architecture are traditional Chinese roof tiles, memorial gateway, and sculptural wall decoration. With nowadays online communication, we achieved the instant travel through space and time. What if the architecture can also travel through time and what if it is not always a stable state? The main concept of the pavilion is to create a diaphanous space that is changing through time in a post-digital context. We used the point cloud to deconstruct the structure and collide it with a uniform geometry which later becomes the corridor. Given the planar and heavy nature of the roof tiles, we manipulated the tiles to create a lighter feeling and more three-dimensional experience. The solid sculptural wall decoration are changed in its materiality and form to aggregate as a ceiling. The pavilion became an instant display and storage of information rather than its physical expression.
